Elizabeth Arden Global Makeup Artist Rebecca Restrepo and Style Director Shoshanna Gruss offer tips on mastering the trend.
Elizabeth Arden Global Makeup Artist Rebecca Restrepo says: “A modern easy way to wear the rich shade of Marsala is by keeping other elements of the face highlighted and neutral. For the eyes when using a shade like Beautiful Color Eye Shadow in Spice; I like to anchor the shade with a pencil like Beautiful Color Precision Glide Eyeliner in Slate. It’s a rich grey that has a subtle neutral intensity.
I line the top lash all along the lash line making sure to get thicker on the last 1/3 of the outer corner of the eye. Make sure to keep the outside edge going in an upward stroke to open and lift the eye. If you desire an even more sultry look, add it to the inside waterline. To complete the eye shadow look I add a highlight shade to the inside corner of the eye both top and bottom along inside lash line to create a soft brightening effect.”

“When I use a rich lip shade like Beautiful Color Moisturizing Lipstick in Beauty I do the blush last. This way I don’t add too much colour. When the lip is defined in this way the checks need less pop. I also add a highlighter to the cheekbones and a bit on the outside of the brow/temple to brighten and create a vibrant face when using rich tones.”
“You also can’t go wrong with a ‘little black dress’ and a dramatic Marsala lip – very sexy. Just make sure you don’t overdo it on the eye makeup… too much dark makeup on the face can take away from the full look.”
Personally, I am a fan of the color but for those who are wondering…why Marsala?! Well, according to the Executive Director of Pantone Color Institute Leatrice Eiseman; “Marsala enriches our mind, body and soul, exuding confidence and stability. Marsala is a subtly seductive shade, one that draws us in to its embracing warmth.”
