Kindred Restaurant

Earlier this month, I was invited to the launch of Kindred which was a lovely surprise. Kindred is  a beautiful new eatery on Wynyard Quarter in Auckland. Generosity, authenticity and collaboration are the key ingredients in this new restaurant, which is the latest offering from the Wiley Boys; the team who brought Sausalito Café and more recently, the popular Miss Clawdy to the Auckland restaurant scene.

It is an all-day, modern creative dining space and Kindred will serve new takes on old favourites, alongside dishes you never knew you wanted, but soon won’t be able to go without. It’s been three years since father and sons’ trio Dennis, Tom and Jeff successfully launched Miss Clawdy. Now the boys have brought Belinda Wiley to the table, as Creative Director, in the lead up to the launch of their latest locale. The launch event was truly welcoming and it’s great to see a family so united in bond, love and success.

Belinda Wiley says; “We wanted to create an eatery that celebrates timeless design and wholesome, delicious food to enjoy with loved ones. Kindred will reflect a spirit we like to think of as the Wiley family’s – a spirit that is easy going and generous.” I especially love that the beverages do not have any added sugar which is significant for those of us who are quite conscious of what we consume.

The seasonal menu offers a considered variety of globally-inspired flavours and refreshing twists on old classics; quite simply ‘things we love to eat’. Thanks to the Kindred team, lunch was taken care of.  I tried out a few things on the menu at the launch and my favourite drinks were Zen and Tonic (must try!) and I also adore the house-made soda shrubs. In terms of lunch, I enjoyed the Twice Cooked Chicken with bok choy, sambal, schezuan salt and lemon. And, you cannot leave Kindred without trying the Blueberry and Lemon Raw Cashew cheesecake (divine!).

I love lunching at Wynyard Quarter especially in summer time. So, I’ll be taking a couple of my close friends to lunch at Kindred in the near future to check out the rest of the menu. I love the sophisticated and relaxed aura of the restaurant and the choices on the menu are a breath of fresh air and quite unique. Healthy food doesn’t have to be boring and Kindred is the epitome of that. There’s something for everyone. Have you checked out Kindred yet?
