I took some time to reflect on my favorite collections from New Zealand Fashion Week 2015 and as my second year this year as a delegate and the fact that I am juggling full-time work in the legal world, I decided to only write about collections that inspired me and perhaps talk-worthy, or in this case, blog-worthy. What you find inspiring may not inspire me, and vice versa. I am still a bit sad that I missed the Sean Kelly show as my friend and I decided to take a break in between shows!
The RUBY show was a stand-out for me. I am featuring RUBY’s Tonight Tonight collection, to put simply, because I love it and also as RUBY is one of my favorite New Zealand labels. I have featured here some of my favorite pieces from the show.
Held at a carpark on Cross Street in Auckland City, Impulse joined forces with RUBY in an exciting collaboration. Headlining the RUBY show is ‘The Romantic Spark dress’, inspired by the thrillingly floral, poetically feminine and above all, passionate notes of the Impulse Romantic Spark fragrance. ‘Romantic Spark is a love story of wild violets and warm earthy woods. Impulse has designed this fragrance to embody the current of electricity that prompts two strangers to feel as though they’ve met before’.

I also love that the Tonight, Tonight collection was made available for purchase directly following the show and then throughout all eleven of RUBY’s nationwide stores, the very next day, which meant the audience can buy on impulse. A smart business move indeed. Who really wants to wait several months?
On this concept, RUBY designer Deanna Didovich stated ‘We live in a world where instant access and impulse drive buying habits. If we are able to download a song as soon as it’s released, why shouldn’t we expect the same from fashion…it’s only natural to want to shop something as soon as you’ve fallen in love with it.’
Tonight Tonight collection is inspired by dance. The color palette sets light against dark. The collection is a nod to the 60’s with a 70’s vibe; chiffon, bell-sleeves, flared vibes were featured. Basically, clothes that my momma tried to dress me in (as a child and as a teenager) which I detested at the time, but now have an appreciation for, and oh-so-trendy obviously.
