I’m all about discovering beautiful new gardens to visit and rejuvenate. I was invited to the Wrights Watergardens which is a stunning and picturesque watergarden located 45 minutes south of Auckland city. It’s perfect if you don’t want to venture out of town but if you would prefer a mini-getaway/day trip. On my arrival, it felt like I entered a story book of ponds, colourful gardens and winding pathways which surround the iconic Mauku Waterfall. It was easy to snap away so many photos for the blog! The garden is a great location for day visits, retreats, weddings and special occasions.
Mauku Waterfall and surrounds has had an interesting and long history. At the top of the waterfall was a working water wheel running flax mill. This was dismantled in 1869. With the area covered in native bush, it was a wonderful picnic and courting spot for the local people and many wedding proposals were made beside the falls. History is now repeating itself with a new generation of romantics using the beauty of the falls to enhance their special occasions. I would recommend a picnic there in the summer. And, it’s a lovely place to reflect and even take time out and enjoy your own company in solitude! I’ll definitely be visiting again!
